it's not that often i look at random bands' myspaces, and even rarer an occasion, almost to the point of non-existance until a few moments ago, that the songs i hear there move me at all. But i saw this band, kids against combs, on fark, because they named their album "Sean Hannity (631) 673-8003", which until a bunch of crazy new york indie kids started calling him was his home phone number. Needless to say, lawsuits were threatened, and the band reported that a bunch of "very conservative republican looking guys" showed up at one of their shows to make sure the band wasn't selling cd's with sean hannity's phone number on it (and his adress inside, apparently). Luckily, they had freshly printed copies of the cd with its new title - "The Album Formerly Known As Sean Hannity’s Phone Number ... Currently Sean Hannity Is a Democracy Subverting Douche Bag" available to sell them, and no legal action was pursued. This is why i was intrigued enough to see if they had a myspace, and hear what they sound like.
i kind of expected some hard coreish anticapitalist punk, or else really bad acoustic songs that involve saying fuck the man or fuck the scene or fuck bush at some point in every song. But it was this really thought-about-sounding mellow indie stuff that i actually can't stop listening to right now... especially counterfeit shoegazers, which sounds like it has some guy plucking single notes on a ukelele in the background i think... though i might be mistaken about what that is. whatever it is, i love it.
business men are too busy to bother
to read about the, cannon fodder
... and the counterfeit shoegazers
stare at the ground
"what's the matter kid?
there are so many other, things to worry about,
so...
get your mind off that, girl...
there's one point five billion, oth-ers..."
and everything that, brings you to the brink
is per-fect-ly, fine!
and everyone is per-fect...
all... the time...
and on the weekends, i've got some,
extra work... 60 70 80 hours you know, whatever it took...
and baby... i was so admired...
as a man who forgot about his family
made so much... mon-ey... and enemies...
baby... don't you miss me?...
oooh-oooh.....
